Let's look at an example of what the probability does mean. If a forecast for a given county says that there is a 40% chance of rain this afternoon, then there is a 40% chance of rain at any point in the county from noon to 6 p.m. local time.

So, in the example above, there is a 30% chance that at least 0.01" of rain will fall at the point for which that forecast is valid over the period of time given ("Tuesday" in this case). The time periods given in our forecasts are typically 12-hours long.

While calculating the annual rainfall, only add every month's rainfall. This total should not be divided by the number of months in a year as the result would be the average rainfall. Do not confuse between the annual rainfall and the average rainfall.
